MEMBERS met on Monday, April 16, in the Poplars. A card will be sent to Alice Jones, now recovering after her recent indisposition, and the latest bulletins on Mary Wormington were given by friends who had visited her.
Gillian Moody, assisted by Janet Owen, gave an extremely helpful question-and-answer session on gardening, flowers and foliage, and as she is most knowledgeable in this area we all learnt a great deal. She was thanked by Sue Pugh.
We meet this month on Monday, May 21, at 7.30pm in the Poplars for a beetle drive to be organised by Dot Waldron - as you know, such occasions result in hilarious-looking representations of this unsuspecting insect, surely worthy of gracing the walls of Tate Modern. Come and do your best - or worst.
The speaker at the April meeting was Dr Sally Baggott from the Birmingham Assay Office, and she gave an informative account of the history of the hallmarking of articles manufactured in gold, silver and platinum, particularly in Birmingham, whose Assay Office is today the largest in the world. She was thanked by Dot Waldron.
Reports were given concerning our indisposed members - Joyce Parkes making a slow and painful recovery after her knee operation, and Mary Wormington progressed steadily in Evesham Hospital.
Enid Fellowes has just completed her term of office as Corbett Group co-ordinator and has sent a letter of thanks for our support during those years. The post is now waiting to be filled and a volunteer is urgently needed.
Lil Spray's 80th birthday was marked by the presentation of a card and bouquet of flowers. A reminder was made of the summer outing to Spetchley Park on Wednesday, May 16, to arrive there between 11am and 11.30am. Pat Tonks gave a full report of the annual council meeting at Malvern at the end of March. During social time, tea was served by Marjorie Pitman and Dot Waldron, and there was an opportunity to view the silver articles which had been brought by members for the table.
The president thanked Pat Kay for flowers, and all who had helped in the serving of teas.
Our next meeting is on Monday, May 14, at 2pm in the village hall. It is our resolutions meeting. We welcome guests and visitors to join us ay any time.
