A POLICEMAN has been shot dead at the scene of a domestic incident.
The constable was shot after police were called to an address in New Park Road, Shrewsbury, yesterday morning.
He was taken by ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A man in his thirties was found dead at the scene of the incident and a firearm was recovered.
No one else was injured.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and the coroner for Mid and North Shropshire had both been informed.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Chief Constable Paul West said: "The thoughts of everyone are with the family of our officer and others affected by this incident at this desperately sad time.
"A thorough investigation into all the circumstances surrounding this incident will be carried out in close consultation with the IPCC."
One local resident described the area as "very quiet".
He said: "I woke up this morning and heard it on the radio and could not believe it. It is not a typical thing to happen around here. It is very unusual and very out of the ordinary to hear of something like this happening in sleepy Shrewsbury."
