WORCESTERSHIRE villagers protesting against a housing development in the village will have to wait another month to find out if their opposition has been successful.

A group of villagers living near the site of a proposed 30-home development on Badsey Fields Lane, Badsey, near Evesham, say the scheme will cause significant harm.

A planning application from Badsey Fields Lane Consortium was discussed at a meeting of Wychavon District Council's development control committee on Thursday.

After much deliberation by members, it was deferred to enable further details to be obtained from the applicant.

The protesters were out in force before the meeting as members of the committee held a site visit in the morning.

Group member Nick Cotter was encouraged by the decision to defer the application.

He said: "It is some consolation and I was re-assured that a significant number of the development control committee are uncomfortable with both the appearance and the character of such high density housing in a rural lane in a small village.

"Some members are suggesting that if the application is rejected and went to appeal, then a Government inspector would step in and increase the number of houses in the scheme.

"That just sounds like scaremongering to me.

"The main problems we have with the plans are density of houses, damage to the character of the village, quality of life, traffic and one of the biggest facts is the environment. We hope that now we are in with a real chance of getting a right and just result."

The application is now expected to be discussed at the next development control meeting on May 31.
