CAMPAIGNERS against a controversial plan to build an extra 30 homes on an estate at Badsey, near Evesham, have welcomed news that a decision has been deferred for a month.
Wychavon district councillors voted to defer the plan for land at Badsey Lane Fields in order for the information to be presented in a better way.
They had complained the drawings did not clearly show a street scene for the plan, which has attracted more than 100 objections.
The development has caused controversy because a local plan inspector has said the site is only big enough for 20 homes and local people believe 30 is too many. However, the developer argued that policy for the efficient use of land puts the number of houses allowed for 1.3 hectares (3.2 acres) closer to 40.
Speaking after the meeting, campaigners said they thought councillors were frightened of central government but were glad the decision had been put off.
Roger Giles, a lawyer for the developer, said he would be advising his clients to lodge an appeal.
