A 16-year-old is going to appear at crown court in connection with an assault that left a 17-year-old in a coma.

The male victim - who has still not regained consciousness - suffered serious head injuries in the attack, which happened in Hunderton Avenue, Hereford, at 10.45pm on Wednesday, April 11.

He remains in hospital in a serious condition and it is likely that his injuries will be life-altering.

The 16-year-old, who has not been named, was arrested in Bromyard on Saturday, April 28 and on Monday (april 30) charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

On Tuesday (may 1) he appeared before Hereford Youth Court and was remanded to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, May 22.

"This was an extremely serious attack which has left the victim hospitalised in a coma with significant head injuries," said Detective Inspector David Llewellin from Hereford CID, leading the investigation.

"It is important that we are able to gather all information necessary to bring the offender to justice.

"Our inquiries are continuing and we are still keen to talk to anyone who may have witnessed the assault taking place, or saw anything in the lead up to it which may be relevant."
