STUDENTS became entrepreneurs as they pushed their marketing and business brains to the limit.
Mobile Mayhem' was the theme of an Enterprise Day at Elgar Technology College, Bilford Road, Worcester, as youngsters sampled the cut and thrust of the business arena.
Students from year eight competed against each other to design, market and sell a brand-new mobile phone.
The day started with a presentation explaining the concepts of enterprise and outlining the challenge. The students formed groups and got to work. Many ideas were discussed, ranging from phones that held iPods to wristwatch phones.
A spokesman for Elgar said: "The ideas were exciting and innovative, demonstrating a truly impressive range of skills and ideas. Students worked in groups and regularly held team meetings so as to ensure they met some very tight deadlines."
After lunch, the whole of the top of the Enigma teaching block was transformed into a market place with students displaying posters, manning stalls and battling for custom. Year seven students, playing customers, were bombarded with fliers and tempted into the classrooms by promises of free SIM cards, cash-back offers and loads of creative prototypes and advertising features. The year sevens were also the judges and made the ultimate decision about who the winners would be.
The winners were SJJF' - Shaquille Tulloch, Jordan Whelan-Clark, Jack Woodward and Ryan Merrit.
These students each won a £20 gift voucher and eight other students were awarded £5 vouchers.
