THOUSANDS of people are expected to flock to Hereford city centre for an annual street extravaganza.
White-knuckle rides, side-shows and food stalls are all part of Hereford's May Fair, a three-day festival which starts on Tuesday, May 8.
Michael Boswell, chairman of the South Wales and Northern Ireland section of the Showman's Guild, said: "A warm welcome awaits all to join us at this historic and impressive traditional fair.
"Showmen from all over the UK will give thrills, fun and laughter. Showmen's Guild members are delighted to be here once again - we congratulate the city on its new refurbishment.
"We'd like to reassure residents that every precaution will be taken to protect and maintain the surface of the streets and street furniture, as in the past."
The official opening of the event will be at 3.45pm in Cathedral Close. Some of the city's streets will be closed to traffic from the Monday, May 7 until the early hours of Friday, May 11.
These will be Commercial Street, High Town, St Peter's Street, St Owen Street, Broad Street (below the junction of West Street and East Street), King Street and Bridge Street.
Meanwhile, the southern end of Berrington Street will be two-way between St Nicholas Street and Little Berrington Street, as will Gwynne Street.
Herefordshire Council has urged drivers to be patient.
