RESIDENTS and businesses could be cut off from their electricity supply and motorists can expect disruptions through Worcester when major works on a city centre sub-station take place later this month.
Bus routes to CrownGate Bus Station will also be affected while Central Networks dig up Shaw Street to carry out one-week's work on an undergrund electrical sub-station.
However, Worcestershire County Council have not yet formulated plans to divert buses travelling from St Nicholas Street to CrownGate Bus Station. A spokesman said this was because there had been a degree of "uncertainty" about where and when the work would take place.
"Now that we have confirmation we will be looking to confirm the diversion routes in the very near future," he said.
However, diversions have been set up for normal traffic travelling through the city while the work takes place between Sunday, May 27, and Saturday, June 2.
A Central Networks spokeswoman said: "During this time the street will be closed and some customers may go off supply during this stage for a brief period but we will notify them well in advance. They are going to change switch gears at the sub-station. It's quite a large job - there will be generators and heavy equipment in the area."
As a result, traffic travelling from the junctions at Dolday and The Butts will be diverted along All Saints Road, Deansway, College Street, City Walls Road, St Nicholas Street to get onto Foregate Street.
The diversion route for traffic wanting to get access to Sansome Street and Lowesmoor will be diverted from Foregate Street along Pierpoint Street, Sansome Walk and Sansome Place.
The one-way traffic restriction on Sansome Street will be temporarily suspended from its junction with Foregate Street for 150 metres (492ft) to its junction with Sansome Place so people gain gain access to buildings in Sansome Street.
Meanwhile, a temporary one-way traffic order will operate along the entire length of Farrier Street, meaning traffic will travel in a northenly direction only while the work takes place.
Traffic prevented from turning right into Farrier Street from Castle Street will be diverted along Croft Road to Dolday and The Butts.
