VISITORS to an historic house in Worcestershire will have a chance to go on tours behind the scenes.
Donning hard hats and clutching torches, guides will take visitors through Witley Court's old stable block or below stairs into the cellars which would have housed the kitchens and servants' quarters when the house was in use - places not normally open to the public.
Where the exclusive tours go will depend on the activity of the bat population at the 19th century mansion. Head of visitor operations Olivia Iles said: "Visitors often assume that the part of the house open to visitors tells the full story of Witley Court, but the reality is that many part of the house usually remain closed to visitors, hiding fascinating secrets within their walls.
"These tours allow us to take small groups into other parts of the site where we would not want unaccompanied visitors to go exploring and climbing."
There will be two tours, one at 11am and the other 2pm, on the first Tuesday and Thursday each month from May to September.
Places are limited so booking is essential. Tickets cost £10.40 for adults and £5.10 for children. English Heritage members receive discounted entry. For details call 01299 896636.
