A DISUSED public toilet could soon be turned into a contemporary art space.
If given the go-ahead by city council planners, Platform 2 will be situated at Foregate Street Station, Worcester, inside a former men's toilet.
The small space, just 5m (16.4ft) by 3m (9.8ft), would house art from all over the world as well as work by local artists.
Behind the idea is Worcester-based art body Yoke and Zoom, run by husband and wife Alex Johnson and Nina Coulson, who want Platform 2 to be an artist-led, non-profit gallery for the benefit of rail passengers and other members of the public.
"This is an ideal use of space in this location because Worcester has no artist-run spaces and no independent galleries," said Mr Johnson.
"We aim to place recent graduates or under-represented artists with those who are advanced in their careers."
The gallery will be rent-free, offering artist the rare opportunity to exhibit work without the pressure to make money.
Mr Johnson said: "The space will never be for hire and is not to be used for profit."
Paul O'Connor, head of Worcester City Council planning, welcomed the scheme.
He said: "Without any bias towards the application, I think that the use of such a redundant facility is a very interesting idea and would help to diversify the visitor's attractions in the city as well as improving their first impressions."
The application is due to be decided upon by the summer.
If the name Yoke and Zoom is not familiar, their work might be. The group, which was formed in 2001, installed a pair of grit bins - one labelled Grit and the other Determination - across Worcestershire. It also grew four-leaf clovers and posted them all over the globe.
