WEDNESDAY night's meteor shower did not disappoint local stargazers.
Those who turned their eyes to the skies above the county may have been lucky enough to see a spectacular shower of meteors raining down on the earth.
Michael Morris, of Worcester Astronomical Society, said: “Unfortunately, a bank of cloud swept in the early hours, curtailing the show, but we still saw lots of meteors. I run two highly sensitive video cameras which automatically record meteors as they burn up. Last night I captured videos of 38 meteors, including a few really bright ones.”
The Perseid meteor shower happens when the Earth’s yearly orbit around the sun passes through the remnants of the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle.
Next month’s talk at Worcester Astronomical Society is about comets and will be held on September 10 at Lower Smite Farm, Hindlip.
