A sex offender has been remanded in prison to wait for a new report from the probation service before he is sentenced.

When Jason Knight appeared at Worcester Crown Court, Judge Alistair McCreath said there had been a "misunderstanding" by the officer who prepared the pre-sentence report.

Knight, aged 36, of Sansome Fields House, East Street, Worcester, has been in custody since February 13 after pleading guilty to two charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, Defence counsel Kevin Grego, who asked for an adjournment, said the probation officer was not in possession of the full facts about the case when he prepared his report.

The judge, who said that a substantial prison sentence seemed inevitable, ordered a fresh report.

He said he needed this before sentencing and it would allow the prison service to set up a programme to help sex offenders.

He remanded Knight until Wednesday, June 20 ,and reserved the case to himself.
