ON Tuesday, April 10, Malvern Art Club members and friends visited the Compton Verney Gallery in Warwickshire, housed in a Grade I listed mansion designed by Robert Adam.
British philanthropist Sir Peter Moore acquired the mansion in 1993 with the aim of transforming an elegant country house into a gallery of international standard, it was first opened to the public in 2004.
We were greatly impressed with the current exhibition Opulence And Anxiety, landscape paintings from the Royal Academy of Arts, ranging from paintings by John Constable to David Hockney.
Also we were delighted to view their newest acquisition, which cost £4 million - an ancient Chinese bronze wine jar dated 1025BC. Many members found time before boarding the coach, to walk through the beautiful grounds designed by Capability Brown, and Dudley Brook identified many of the splendid trees.
On May 10 the club is making a visit to Oxford to the Ashmolean and the Pitt Rivers galleries and generally enjoy Oxford.
