A MAN was still fighting for his life last night after a horrific car crash on the notorious A449 in Worcester.
A 41-year-old man was still in a critical condition after his red Alfa Romeo left the Worcester to Kidderminster road at Hawford and hit a tree.
Since the accident, which happened last Friday at 11pm, the man has been at Worcestershire Royal Hospital with serious chest, head and leg injuries.
A spokesman for Worcester police said: "The man is still very seriously ill in hospital."
Firefighters were called to the scene and had to cut him out of the car.
No other cars are believed to have been involved in the accident and there were no other passengers in the car. Reports that the driver was 17-years-old were incorrect, as the Worcester News was given wrong information.
The A449 has now claimed the lives of 12 people in the last nine years, and injured another 69. In December last year 18-year-old Kyle Gadsby and Martyn Pickering of Droitwich, Stephanie Goodall, aged 16, and 17-year old Joanne Bibby, both from Worcester, died when the car they were travelling in crashed on the A449.
Police want people to provide details of the latest crash. Anyone who saw the incident - or the vehicle being driven earlier - is asked to contact the police on 08457 444 888, quoting reference 882S/200407.
