A WORCESTERSHIRE choir has something to sing about this weekend.
Not only is the concert at Tewkesbury Abbey this Saturday, the Philomusica of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire's 900th public performance, it coincides with the group's 40th anniversary year.
The choir will be joining forces with the Philomusica orchestra to perform two great works by English composers - Elgar's much-loved Enigma Variations and Vaughan Williams's Sea Symphony.
"Right from the start Philomusica has been associated with English music," said chairman John Quinn.
"We have made something of a speciality of Elgar's music and we're helping to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth by including what Classic FM listeners agree is one of his best-loved orchestral works. While Sea Symphony is packed with wonderful tunes and the orchestration is really colourful."
The concert will be in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. It will be conducted by Linda Parsons and the soloists will be Kathryn Skipp (soprano) and David Parsons (bass-baritone).
Admission is £12 for adults and free for accompanied children. Tickets are available in advance from the Abbey shop, Mr Quinn on 01452 506417 or on the door.
