Alison's review:
"Marjorie's World Unhinged is an interesting show with dance mixed with drama. The strange props, for example balloons, and the images projected on the wall make it seem dreamlike and surreal. The dancing was amazing, especially by the dancer that played Nathalia and the story was interesting and centred around aging, beauty and dance. The characters ranged from factory workers to aging ballerinas and it is interesting to see how these characters connect. I especially loved the character of Marjorie, who was always so indignant at the younger ballerinas taking over.
Overall, it was and interesting and beautiful show that made you think although it was a little strange in places".
Samantha's review:"Well what can I say ? This outstanding piece of dance theatre is directed by award winning choreographer Maresa von Stockhert, she is known for her quirky, imaginative style of dance and that definitely came through in this performance, it was delightfully obscure.
In this stunningly unusual show Maresa cleverly nits together the stories of six very different people, explaining through the use of music, props and dance what is going on inside their absurd and laughable minds.
The story itself is hard to explain as it consists of so many separate tales. You need to concentrate and be a slightly older viewer to appreciate this show and also to interpret it's winding plot; however I think you will definitely find yourself laughing most of the way.
The ingenious idea to use hardly any scenery and mainly projections is fantastic. The new and dexterous way in which the show is presented seems to make you look at the world from a different perspective. This technique also helps you to comprehend the characters, furthermore it looks very professional.
I would give this show a 4 out of 5 for the dancing alone with the added bonus of the intriguing story. The performance astutely raises issues of ageing and families moreover it is certainly highly entertaining to watch."
Charlie Adey, age 13 - review:Go and see Marjorie's world unhinged at the swanky Swan Theatre for a ticket to another lifetime! The whole experience is exhilarating; with only three white screens and a costume design of dull colours, Marjorie's world unhinged really is an experience of a lifetime!
Even though there is little scenery it is very effective. It is intense with fantastic music, which is also extremely powerful. Marjorie's world is a great show, although it's not ideal for the younger audience due to its explicit content.
As the centre role we have Marjorie, an ageing ballerina still dazzled by the spotlight.
Around her revolve the stories of five characters: her teenage rival Eleanor; her sister Betty, a small town ballet teacher cursed with a rebellious daughter; her husband Eric who works in a balloon factory and of course her son.
These characters have their own individual experiences of desire and frustration as they are all connected with the problems of Marjorie by a mix of text dance and film.
