EXCITED youngsters officially opened their £3.5 million flagship school in Worcester.
Yesterday pupils of Red Hill CE Primary School in Midhurst Close were given a grand tour on their first day at the completely rebuilt school, which took 15 months to construct.
Headteacher Jane Long said: "It's a really exciting day for us here. The children are so excited, as are we all. We are so lucky to have got such an exciting building, with state-of-the-art environmental features. This makes it a particularly exciting and wonderful day for us.
"The children are really going to appreciate and get a lot from this building, which will offer us great curriculum opportunities and be a first-class modern place for learning."
The 288-pupil school, which was funded by Worcestershire County Council and built by contractor Galliers, is full of environmental features and has been labelled a flagship for the county.
The radiators are fed by tapping underground heat, it has been built using many recycled materials, it has a sustainable urban drainage system and it can store rainwater in underground tanks to flush the toilets.
Youngsters were taught in temporary classrooms on the site while the former school was demolished and the new one built.
The majority of the temporary accommodation will be removed later this month.
