A MAN with size 11 feet says he was refused entry into a Worcester nightclub because his shoes were too chunky.
But James Taylor suspects the real reason was his physical appearance.
He was celebrating his sister Lucy's 29th birthday when he and a group of about eight people decided to go to Sin in New Street.
He said the doorman let other members of the group into the city centre club, but refused him entry saying his shoes were too chunky.
The 33-year-old, of Somers Road, Barbourne, Worcester, said: "Whatever the style of shoe I go for, they are always going to look big with a size 11 foot.
"I don't drink and had Diet Coke all night, I wasn't drunk or aggressive.
"They didn't give me a chance to defend myself. The bloke said it didn't meet with the dress code -- he wasn't even prepared to explain what the dress code was."
Mr Taylor, who was born with health problems, including only having one kidney and a jaw out of place, said he suspects the doorman was making excuses and refused him entry on Saturday night because of his physical appearance.
"I'm not the best looking person in the world," said the service station worker, who has two valves fitted in his head because he has water on the brain.
"With my appearance and lack of confidence, I don't tend to go out very often anyway," he said. "It took a lot for me to get out.
"You feel like locking yourself away again and not going out. Maybe it wasn't an attack on me, but it felt like it."
Mr Taylor said the rest of the group decided not to go into the club.
Sin's manager Paul Todd said the club did not discriminate against anyone because of physical appearance, disability or race.
"I would do everything I could to help someone with a disability and it's certainly not that," he said.
"I'm not aware of this incident. I do feel sorry if this chap is unhappy and thinks he's not had such a good night, but I promise you now there was no intentional discrimination.
"We do have a very strict dress code and that's a fact.
"We don't allow boots in or the Rockport-style/shabby type of shoe. We have very little trouble in Sin and that's because we are very tight on the door."
