A LITTER-pick in a Worcester park cleared up more than 28 kilos (61.7lbs) of rubbish.
On Friday, a team of 15 descended on Cripplegate Park in St John's to do their bit for this year's Rubbish? Sort It! campaign.
Eleven adults and four children collected a total of 20.8 kg (45.9lbs) of non-recyclable rubbish and 8kg (17.8lbs) of cans and plastic.
St John's councillor Margaret Layland took part and said it was a big success.
"All the volunteers are doing a fantastic job. I've attended two events so far, one at Worcester Woods Country Park and one in Cripplegate Park, and it's really encouraging to see people from all age groups working together to clean up our city.
"The negative side, of course, is that the rubbish shouldn't be there in the first place. I fail to understand why people drop litter. Thank goodness the good guys outnumber the bad ones."
The Rubbish? Sort It! campaign, which is organied by the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust and Worcester City Council, is a month-long scheme aimed at clearing up public places and educating people about environmental issues.
There are still a number of litter picks taking place this week. To find out when and where they are and how to join in, contact the trust on 01905 734979.
