A MOTHER has warned of the dangers of more than one child playing on a trampoline after her daughter badly broke her leg.

Kira Bailey faces a six to eight week stay in hospital following the accident at a neighbour's house on Sunday.

Her mum Bev Sparks, aged 40, says she was alerted by her neighbour following the accident, which happened as a group of children played in a water-filled paddling pool that was on top of a trampoline.

As they played, an older boy landed on seven-year-old Kira, a pupil at St Peter's CE First school, Droitwich, breaking her thigh bone. Miss Sparks says doctors told her the thigh bone, or femur, is one of the worst bones to break and a common trampolining injury.

Miss Sparks, who lives with Kira's father Dale Bailey and their three-year-old son Keelan, Swallow Place, Primsland, Droitwich, said: "Her leg had swollen up really badly and had to be put back into place while she was still on it (the trampoline)."

But, because of her age, they have decided to use weights to stretch the muscle, meaning she will be in bed for weeks.

"She had a bad night last night because of the pain," said Miss Sparks. "This is going to be a long process. She is quite a tomboy.

"But when I got to the house, everyone was crying, the children and the adults.

"So I yelled for an ambulance to be called."

A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance were initially sent to the scene but they called for an air ambulance, and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire helicopter was called so a trauma doctor could be there.

Paramedic Clive Shearman said: "The removal was extremely difficult. We started by draining the pool, but because the surface was a trampoline, any movement left her in a great deal of pain.

"We had to move very slowly on to the trampoline making as little movement as possible and give her strong pain relief and fluids.

"Although we were all getting very wet, it was the little girl we were more concerned about. Despite the pain she was being very brave."

Miss Sparks praised the ambulance crew for keeping everyone calm.
