A YOUNGSTER dedicated to helping children with disabilities and learning problems has received a prestigious award.

Ben Keitch, of Northwick, Worcester, works as a volunteer with two youth projects at Worcester's Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club.

At the disability inclusion project Ben helps children taking part in sport, art and cookery.

At the youth lodge project he helps organise trips for youngsters and secure funding for their activities.

The 14-year-old, of Pinkett Street, said: "It makes me feel quite pleased and grateful for who I am. I feel quite pleased that I was nominated. I enjoy doing it."

Ben was nominated for the Worcestershire County Council Tryangle Personal Development Award by Ross McCormack, who runs both the projects.

Mr McCormack said: "The change in Ben has been just outstanding. He's working with a range of disabilities and shows no fear and gets on with the task. He's just become a really well-liked member of the group."

The awards are designed to celebrate the efforts of 11 to 19-year-olds who try, often with little recognition, to do their best in whatever they undertake.
