A MAN who obstructed a police investigation into allegations of prostitution in Worcester's Broad Street has been released from prison.
Worcester Magistrates Court was told Aimin Guo had been remanded in custody for a pre-sentence report after admitting on Friday, March 23, that he had tried to conceal some mobile phones in a washing machine when police searched a house in Dudley, West Midlands.
David Taylor, defending, said Guo, aged 47, had been living in Kingswinford Road, Dudley, while working as a cleaner and gardener and had admitted the offence at the first opportunity.
However, the court was told that the probation service had not been able to prepare the report because it was unable to find out which prison was holding him in sufficient time.
Mr Taylor said the court only had powers to sentence Guo to a month in prison and, because he had pleaded guilty immediately, he had already served more than the maximum sentence on remand.
Deputy District Judge Lawrence sentenced Guo to 14 days in custody and said that as he had already served that time he could be released.
