ELDERLY people in Worcestershire have been warned to be on alert for would-be thieves posing as social services staff.
It follows an incident in Evesham where a man and two women went into a pensioner's home, telling the resident they were from social services.
A spokesman for Worcester police said: "They did not show any form of identification and pushed past the occupant.
"They blatantly carried out a brief search of the premises before the woman managed to get rid of them, fortunately without anything being taken.
"A substantial number of elderly people are particularly vulnerable - especially if they are living alone - and need to be very wary about opening the door to strangers, particularly when they do not have the necessary form of identification to show.
The bogus staff entered the home in Burford Road between 3.15pm and 5.23pm on Thursday, April 12.
The two women were in their late teens or early 20s, while the man was described as being in his late 20s.
The trio made their exit after jumping into a dark saloon car.
Anyone who saw anything in connection with the incident is urged to contact police on 08457 444 888, quoting 556S/120407. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
