AN overturned canoe spotted on the River Severn in Worcester sparked a search by the fire service and police officers.
A call was received by the fire service at 12.30pm yesterday about a canoe floating down the river and a systematic search was then made between the Grandstand at Pitchcroft and Diglis.
It was later found on the river bank near the pumping station at Timberdine, off the Bath Road Spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service Alec Mackie said: "It caused quite an alert. But we could not find a person near it or any identifying features on it. There was also no report of anyone missing.
"But the activity would have been seen by quite a few people and we wanted them to know there was nothing to worry about."
A spokesman for West Mercia police added on examination, the canoe looked as if it had been in the water for sometime and they did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding it.
