A COMMONWEALTH Games gold medallist from Malvern is urging cyclists to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Liam Killeen is patron of the Macmillan Elgar Bike Ride which has just received sponsorship of £2,500 from QinetiQ based at Malvern Technology Centre, Malvern.
Cyclists taking part in the bike ride on Sunday, June 10, can choose between a family, intermediate or advanced ride. All rides start at the University of Worcester and will take in sites associated with Sir Edward Elgar.
Macmillan organiser Jon Rayner said rides in previous years raised more than £10,000 each.
"We are grateful for QinetiQ's support and delighted to be holding the event again, giving cyclists a great day out in our lovely Worcestershire countryside while they raise funds to help us to support local people living with cancer," he said.
Mr Killeen said: "I know the importance of skilled care from my own experience of cancer among my family and friends and Macmillan nurses are a precious resource. Cancer must touch every family in some form these days. Collaboration between the NHS and organisations such as Macmillan is essential for the effective treatment and support of individuals and their families."
