A GROUP for elderly people living in Worcester might have to close because it does not have enough members and is running out of funds.
Club leader Melanie Mac-Donald said she is having to dip into group funds to pay for days out for the elderly members of the St Barnabas Social Club because the group's hall is being used for children's activities.
The social club meets in St Barnabas with Christ Church Hall, Church Road, Rainbow Hill, Worcester. However, it is currently being used for youngster's school holiday activities, and is set to be redecorated in the summer.
"Six weeks is a long time for old people to be sitting in the house on their own," said Mrs MacDonald.
"I will try my hardest so we can have an outing and something like that."
However, she said because there are only 16 members, the group does not generate enough money to fund many day trips.
"I tried advertising for more people to come and join the club by putting posters and notices up in the local shops," she said.
"It would be nice to get a few more people to keep the club going. The thing is, some of these people can't come every week because they've got hospital appointments or they don't feel too well."
She said Age Concern used to run the group for about three years before insufficient funding meant the organisation had to withdraw its help.
"The women members of the group wanted me to take it on," she said. "I had to change it from the Jubilee Club to St Barnabas Social Club in August last year."
The group meets between 2pm and 4pm every Tuesday. Members have the chance to talk to each other, drink tea and coffee, and play games.
