A ROYAL visitor will officially open Pershore Hospital in May, it has been announced.
The Friends of Pershore Hospital were told of the news when they met on Monday evening for their annual general meeting at Pershore Civic Centre.
But chairman Trish Freeman did not reveal who the regal visitor would be, as it is yet to be finalised. She told the assembled group to keep their diaries free on May 16.
Meanwhile, the name may have changed but the positive attitude remained the same for the friends, formerly known as the Friends of Pershore Cottage Hospital, as they reflected on what has been a most incredible year.
Mrs Freeman began proceedings with her annual report and said that just 12 months ago the hospital was no more than a building site.
She said: "The unique alliance of the NHS, Wychavon District Council and ourselves has prevailed and a new hospital with a 25-year lease to the PCT has been completed. Already local authorities from all over the country are expressing interest and envy, for what has been achieved.
"We are very grateful for the efforts that you have all made over the years to raise the funds that have enabled us to play our part in this wonderful venture. We shall continue with this work and believe that Pershore will be an even better place to live as a result."
