WORCESTER'S sporting success has been recognised at a prestigious ceremony.
At npower's Disability Sports Awards, University of Worcester student Ajmal Ahmed won male sports personality of the year, Manor Park School was named school of the year and Rose Hill Sports Club won sports club of the year.
The city won three out of 10 awards at the Midlands ceremony at Villa Park.
Mr Ahmed, aged 26, plays for the England and Great Britain Blind Football Squad. Last year, he helped the development of Blind Football in Germany and scored at the world championships.
Manor Park School, in St John's, Worcester, was praised for its exemplary commitment to sport. Eight pupils have followed the Sports Leaders Award and students Tim Alban, aged 17, and Davis Cunningham, aged 18, both of Malvern, will be Young Ambassadors for the 2012 Olympics.
The sports club run by staff at Rose Hill School, Warndon, Worcester, gives children with physical and learning disabilities access to sporting activities.
