A NEW charity dedicated to helping adults with physical and learning disabilities has opened its doors in Worcester.
The Myriad Centre in St George's Walk, Barbourne opened this week to provide educational and vocational facilities to adults with complex needs.
Centre manager Maggie Allen, former head of key stage four at Rose Hill Special School, Warndon, Worcester, said: "It has taken a long time to reach this point and we are very proud of the centre.
"It is due to the determination and the hard work of the trustees, committed to provide this much-needed facility to the people from the area. We are also grateful for the support of parents and associated professionals whose words of encouragement have made all the work worthwhile."
Trustee Peter Reynolds said: "We have had some success in our fund-raising efforts, so far raising over £20,000 from other trusts and charities. But now we have a base, we can start to fund-raise in the local community. If anyone would like more information, or would like to support us, we would be very grateful."
The centre has two large activity rooms, a sensory room and computing facilities. The timetable offers a wide range of activities, both on and off-site, with hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, music therapy and possibly horse riding for the disabled. It also has access to college courses and takes a holistic approach.
