MAY is our AGM and the resolution meeting and we started our meeting by singing Jerusalem. New year's programmes were given out to members. Committee voting slips were distributed asking for those willing to serve on Committee.
The minutes of our last meeting were read and agreed. Moon Mission - The countryside centre walk to see the bluebells was enjoyed by 7 members but the riverside walk was cancelled due to extremely bad weather. Janet, Linda and Elsie had attended the clay pigeon shooting day and Linda told us what a brilliant day it was although both she and Janet ended up with neck and back ache. Suggested further activities included archery and a trip to the only temperance bar in England, apparently Bradford way. Swanpool has invited two members to their July meeting. No one wished to join the Board of Trustees. Kate kindly agreed to fill in a NFWI research and survey form.
This year's resolution has been slightly amended to read health and social care instead of nursing and personal care so the resolution now calls on the government to remove the distinction between health and social care in the assessment of the needs of individuals, in order to advance health and wellbeing. After much discussion one voted for the resolution and the rest gave our delegate discretion as the subject is so complex.
The treasurer then handed out copies of the balance sheet and although we have made a slight loss over the year our finances are in a good position. The Secretary's report was read by Jean showing we had had a very interesting and varied year and our President, Janet, thanked the committee for their help and all the members for turning up so consistently.
Our dual member, Margaret, who cannot vote at our AGM, acted as teller and the committee slips revealed the committee is the same as last year with the addition of Tina. Janet Murphy will again be our President.
We will again enter the skittles competition. This years final was played the previous evening and the winners were Swanpool WI. Beryl was thanked for organising our matches and the top scorer was Elsie. We hope to go to the Lavender fields this year as last year's outing was cancelled due to the weather causing the blooms to be over earlier. The date suggested this year is slightly earlier, July 11, and we will meet there at 10am. We shall also again be doing refreshments at the Norton Community Games so volunteer names were requested. We hope now to do the riverside walk on Thursday May 28.
The monthly competition for a school photo was won by Janet Simmons with a full school photo. The winner over the year's competitions was Janet Allbutt.
£20 has been collected this year for ACWW - slightly lower than usual so members were asked to keep saving their odd pennies. Scrumptious refreshments were enjoyed, provided by Maggie and Rosemary. The raffle was drawn and the meeting ended at about 9.30pm. We will need again on Tuesday June 16 at Whittington Village Hall at 7.30pm when Avril will demonstrate flower making. Any new members or visitors will be made very welcome.
