A POPULAR supermarket car park is set to increase its prices from Monday.

People parking at ASDA car park in Lowesmoor will have to pay £2 for a maximum of two hours from Monday, April 20.

Since the store opened in March 2012, drivers were able to leave their cars parked in the car park for three hours for just £1.

Despite the change in parking fees, supermarket shoppers will still have their money reimbursed when they spend more than £5 in store.

The cheap parking prices has made the car park extremely popular with people shopping in the store as well as those looking to shop in the city centre.

It is thought that customers have complained to staff that it is difficult to find parking spaces and have asked them to take action.

A sign place in the car park said: "Due to capacity constraints and following customerfeedback the tariff and time allowed at this car park will be changing from Monday 20th April 2015.

"From this time the tariff will be £2 and the maximum stay time will be 2 hours.

"ASDA customers will be reimbursed the £2 when spending £5 or more in store."

The opening of the car park led to the income at the nearby St Martin's Gate car park fall by 25 per cent year-on-year in 2012.

Prices were slashed at the city council run car park which saw a rise in the number of people parking their cars at St Martin's Gate but still below the figures before ASDA opened.
