A WORCESTER nursery has received a glowing report from Ofsted inspectors.
Victoria House Day Nursery, St John's, was described as outstanding in all but one area during a recent inspection, with only one small recommendation made for improvement.
The report gave the nursery a good rating for helping children to be healthy - praising nutritious meals and well-planned routines. It said: "Children enter an environment that is highly stimulating, exciting and motivates all aspects of their development.
"It is a very welcoming environment which fully reflects the children's backgrounds and the wid-er community."
Inspectors described staff as having an excellent understanding of child protection issues. It also gave an outstanding rating to the way the Bromyard Road nursery helps children achieve well and enjoy what they do.
"The quality of teaching and learning is outstanding," inspectors said. "Children's personal, social and emotional development is outstanding.
"Children are extremely well motivated to learn because they are actively involved in the learning process and are able to make choices about how they use activities to meet their own learning needs."
The report praised the range of activities on offer, which helped children develop an understanding of the world they live in, as well as the sense of belonging developed at the nursery.
The only criticism from inspectors was a risk of cross infection because staff did not wear disposable aprons during nappy changing. This was the only area recommended for improvement. The report said: "No recommendations for improvement are made because the quality and standards of nursery education are outstanding."
Manager Vicky Hudson said the secret to success was the quality of their staff, including director Davina Wade. She said: "The key to being good is providing a high standard of childcare. If the children are happy the parents are happy, because of the support of high quality staff," she said. "It's a knock on effect really, if you have got no good management and no good staff then the children and the parents suffer."
