BOOKS will be left at a variety of locations across Worcester to promote improved adult reading and writing as part of a page turning scheme.

The Rotating Books project, organised by the Rotary Club of Worcester, will involve as many as 150 books being left at various locations across the city.

Sheila Sonley, Rotary club member and chairman of the community and vocational services committee, said: "It's an initiative to promote literacy and encourage adult reading.

"Each member of the club is going to leave three or four books in parks and other public places such as cafes, hairdressers and pubs. The books will all have a sticker advising people to pick it up and read it for free. Then they can leave the book for somebody else to read. We're the only Rotary club taking up the challenge in the area."

The books will mainly be popular novels. The scheme is being held as part of tomorrow's World Book Day, and Rotary's literacy month in March.
