PINVIN CE First School's clerk of governors has scooped an award for her efforts for the school.

Jo Gupwell has been selected as West Midlands regional winner of the Award for Outstanding Clerks.

She will receive her award at a celebratory lunch and presentation at the Banqueting Suite, Birmingham Council House, Birmingham, on Friday, March 10, along with £300 for herself and £100 for the school.

From the 10 regional winners at the ceremony it will also be announced who has been selected as Clerk of the Year. They will be presented with a laptop computer and an extra award of £1,000, with £750 for the school.

Chairman of the governors Richard Elliott said: "A good clerk does not just take the minutes of the board meetings.

"Jo regularly attends clerks' meetings to ensure that she is up-to-date with all aspects of the job and makes sure that we comply with all the regulations and protocols regarding board meetings, sub-committee meetings and the establishment and structure of the committees.

"She is also able to advise us on the various aspects of the law as it applies to the governors in the running of the school, setting budgets and as employers.

"Being a school governor is an enjoyable but very responsible position.

"Jo's knowledge and efficiency is very much appreciated by all the governors and it certainly makes my job, as chairman of governors, that much easier."
