OUR 68th birthday meeting was held at 2.30pm on Thursday, February 15, in the village hall. President Helena Downham welcomed the visitors and conducted the formal business.

The speaker was the Rt Rev Christopher Mayfield, retired Bishop of Manchester. He and his wife Caroline now live in Worcester. He displayed a wide selection of his vestments of office. A bishop wears purple for everyday, an amethyst ring and pectoral cross. He went through many changes of garments telling us about their significance. The talk ended with him in full dress with mitre and crook. On his back was a splendid red and white cloth shield - the congregation always sees his back first as he walks down the aisle. Maureen Butcher gave the vote of thanks.

We finished with birthday cake made by Mrs Butcher and decorated by Anita Hodgson.

The next meeting will be held at 2.30pm on Thursday, March 15, in the village hall. The speaker will be Dr Anthony Cole on the Lejeune Clinic For Children. Visitors are always welcome.
