A MUM has said she has had to walk with her daughter past piles of rubbish – including a pornographic magazine – spilling out of an overflowing bin every day for more than six weeks.
Kai Tongue of Lygon Walk contacted your Worcester News to say waste has been spilling out of a large wheelie bin outside the Farmer’s Boy pub in Tolladine Road for more than six weeks.
She said she had become increasingly concerned about the refuse spilling out of the bin – which does not belong to the pub but to a nearby set of flats – which she and her eight-year-old daughter Asha walk past when going to and from Hollymount School in Hollymount Road.
“I’ve really had enough,” she said.
“When the wind blows it goes everywhere.
“It’s attracting rats and the other day I saw a dirty magazine and had to get my daughter to look away.
“I rang the council and they said when the rubbish isn’t picked up they just send them a letter.”
The rubbish has been cleared away since Ms Tongue contacted your Worcester News earlier this week.
A spokesman from Worcester City Council – which is responsible for waste collections in the city – said the issue was known to the authority.
“They’ve been contaminating the green recycling bins with rubbish so we can’t take them,” she said.
“The council recently sent a letter to every flat in the area about it and in February we collected all the rubbish to give them a fresh start.”
