A GAMES area in Ronkswood will be revamped after it received a cash boost in excess of £10,000.
Worcester Community Trust has been awarded a grant of £10,518 by Barclays to improve the multi-use games area at Ronkswood Community Centre on Canterbury Road.
The cash will be used to build new basketball hoops, conduct repairs to perimeter fencing and remark the court's surface.
Weekly structured sports event are also catered for by the grant.
Workshops and activities focusing on reducing anti-social behaviour, promoting citizenship and volunteering in order to encourage users to become active participants in the community are also planned.
The final part of the grant will cover the cost of a variety of sporting qualifications for the volunteers at the site.
Cheryl Fereday, youth and community service coordinator at Worcester Community Trust, said: "The young people of Ronkswood take great pride in their community and its members.
"Through this new funding we can put together a programme to ensure that sport is celebrated.
"The local young people will be trained to support others, sharing their passion and knowledge, and placing Ronkswood on the sporting map."
Worcester's MP Robin Walker said: "It is really great to see new funding being invested into these community facilities in Ronkswood, which I know are well used.
"The specific focus on offering opportunities and qualifications for young users of the site will benefit both the individuals involved and the local community."
As part of its' Spaces for Sports' community programme, Barclays has partnered with the Football Foundation to develop 200 community facilities across the UK, which cater for a wide range of sports.
