A REFURBISHED post office in Droitwich has been officially re-opened, after a long-standing campaign to save it from permanent closure.

Witton Post Office in Worcester Road closed suddenly and without explanation in April, 2013, and residents feared it could be lost forever.

But Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Councillor Bob Brookes, cut the ribbon at an opening ceremony on Saturday (November 8) and the branch is now open to the public.

Cllr Brookes said: "I’m pleased to have been able to formally open the new Witton Post Office and I would like to congratulate the postmaster on his hard work - the branch looks great.

“The post office is vital to the community in Droitwich Spa and I'm sure the improved environment and the longer opening hours will be warmly welcomed by the community."

Raj Patel, the postmaster of the store, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming customers to our newly modernised branch.

“We are very pleased to be officially launching it for the community.

“We hope our customers like their new post office and we would like to thank the Mayor for taking time from his busy schedule to attend the launch event.

“We’d also like to thank the local community for their continued support and use of the branch.

“The open-plan counter makes it easier for customers and staff to talk and the extra opening hours make it more convenient as people now have more choice as when to visit.”
