A NOVEL that links characters across time - Jacob's Folly is the second book by the best-selling author of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Rebecca Miller.
In Jacob's Folly we meet three characters who are linked by dreams of escaping the confines of their current life.
Firstly we meet Jacob Cerf, a hawker in France in 1773, who longs to escape from his wife, who after marriage he discovers has a personality disorder. We are then brought to the modern day and introduced to Masha Edelman who longs to be an actress and escape her strict religious upbringing and Leslie Senzatimore, a family man who is desperate to be a hero.
Apart from their desire to escape their current situations, Miller introduces another link that the three characters share when Jacob dies and returns to the modern day as an angel who begins to watch over Masha and Leslie and inevitably changes the course of their lives.
This novel is thought provoking and interesting, especially when the unusual form that Jacob takes as an angel is revealed. The novel is humorous at times and is very well written and quirky.
