BY HATTIE WALES (aged 12)
Dead to You is a heart-wrenching, emotional thriller about a teenager called Ethan.
Nine years ago Ethan was abducted from right outside his front yard, and suddenly one day he returns. At first it seems like a miracle, but soon Ethan realises how difficult it is to fit in. His brother seems to hate him, and for some strange reason, Ethan doesn’t seem to be able to remember anything. All he can think about is his abductor, and why everything seems to be going wrong. There is something blocking his memory, and it isn’t long before Ethan’s past is revealed.
Dead to You is a thrilling book that I couldn’t put down; I am definitely going to read more of Lisa McMann’s books. The end was slightly frustrating, I felt the author could have added another chapter perhaps explaining things a little more. There were lots of unanswered questions.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone younger than 12 because it is quite disturbing in parts, and the use of swearing is common. However, I would recommend it to everyone to read at some stage in their life. This book is great, I loved it.
This book was published by Scholastic and is available to buy for £6.99. It can also be borrowed from The Hive as well as other Worcestershire libraries. Click here to check availability and check it out.
