A HOMELESS hostel in Worcester will be able to spruce up its buildings thanks to a a generous donation.
St Paul’s Hostel has been awarded £500 of funding by the Screwfix Foundation, a charity supporting projects fixing, maintaining and repairing properties and facilities for those in need.
The organisation supports homeless people in the Worcester area and runs a 46-bed hostel in Tallow Hill as well as a 'dry house' and a substance miususe service for street drinkers. It also runs a rough sleeper outreach programme, resettlement services and and Worcestershire LinkUp - a service helping find new homes for those in need.
The hostel's resettlement team leader Yvonne Fletcher said: “We are so grateful to The Screwfix Foundation for donating these essential funds to the charity.
"We’d like to thank everyone who was involved in the fundraising.”
The Screwfix Foundation launched earlier this year and raises funds for initiatives such as repairing facilities and improving buildings in deprived areas as well as helping sick or disabled people with redecorating.
Manager of Worcester's Screwfix store in Sheriff Street Dominique Collins said: “We’re really pleased that one of our local charities has been awarded funding by The Screwfix Foundation.
"Our colleagues from across the business have held a variety of fundraising events – from leg waxes and bike rides, to mountain climbs and fun days – to raise much needed funds.
"It’s fantastic to see the money we have raised being injected back into the community.
"We’d also like to thank all of our customers who have donated money in our collection tins or supported our fundraising efforts – watch this space for our next event.”
The organisation will award more funding later this year. Any projects that may be able to benefit from grants can apply at screwfixfoundation.com.
