A WORCESTERSHIRE woman has been recognised for her tireless work helping train healthcare workers to give the best possible care.

Brenda Hawes has worked in a number of roles within the care sector and has made it through to the finals of the National Learning Disability Awards 2014.

The 50-year-old has worked for Shaw Healthcare for almost 30 years and was instrumental in setting up the first supported living apartments in Worcester. Today she works as a Qualifications and Credit Framework assessor with Shaw and was nominated for her work helping staff understand how they can support people with care needs.

She said: “I went on work experience to Highfield Hospital in Droitwich and I knew even back then I had to work in this sector”.

Shaw Healthcare head of learning and assessment Zahra Conway welcomed the nomination.

“Brenda is a very humble individual, always very quick to champion her learners' achievements above her own,” she said. “An exceptional assessor and a supportive colleague, we as a department couldn't be more proud of her.

“We wish her the best of luck in the next stage of the process.”

The awards will be announced in Birmingham on Wednesday, April 2.
