A CHANCE shot of two children watching a huge wave crashing into rocks saw one student photographer awarded runner up in a countywide competition.
Max Willcock, a first year student at Worcester Sixth Form College, has finished runner-up in the prestigious Worcestershire Young Photographer of the Year competition in the Upper School category.
Max is currently studying AS levels in photography, graphics, geography and politics at the college on Spetchley Road.
He said: “I have been interested in photography since I got my first camera when I was eleven years old.
"My photograph was of two children in coloured raincoats standing underneath a huge wave crashing into the rocks at Jacob's Ladder in Sidmouth, during the St Jude storm.
"Whilst I thought they were a bit close at the time, this was a photographic opportunity too good to miss.
"I quickly grabbed my camera and took the shot just before they ran away to their parents.”
In the future, the student hopes to study photography at university which will hopefully lead to a successful career.
Worcestershire Young Photographer of the Year is organised by the Beacon Camera Club in partnership with Worcestershire County Council.
Jules Steed, head of art and design at Worcester Sixth Form College, said: “We are delighted that Max has been successful in this competition with his amazing photograph.
"He has managed to capture a moment of drama and I know from talking with him that it was wholly un-staged.
"Finally, good luck to Max and all our art and design students in their upcoming exams.”
