A family's fight against dementia will be portrayed in a critically-acclaimed show at the University of Worcester.
The Vamos Theatre Company will bring their show, Finding Joy, to the university’s St John’s Campus for a one-off performance on Thursday, March 27.
The mask theatre production tells the tale of an elderly lady living with dementia and her grandson carer.
It has already proved popular on its nationwide tour, having played to full venues during the London International Mime Festival last month.
The university is home to the internationally-recognised Association for Dementia Studies, regarded as a centre of excellence for training, education and research in dementia studies.
Professor Dawn Brooker, the association's head, said: “I have now seen Finding Joy three times and it is both hugely enjoyable and moving.
“Dementia is an emotive subject, as it is associated with loss and grief, but the marvellous thing about Finding Joy is that it reminds us that joy is there for the finding in the ordinary and the unexpected if we open our hearts wide enough to experience it.”
Steve Boffy, University of Worcester arts consultant, added: “We are thrilled to be able to welcome the Vamos Theatre Company to the university, for a production that is not just innovative and entertaining, but is incredibly relevant in modern society and ties in well with the university’s ground-breaking work in the field of dementia research.”
The performance will take place at 7.30pm.
Tickets, costing £8 and £6 for concessions, are available from the University Arena Box Office.
