FORMER railway wetland will be transformed into an educational nature trail thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Worcester Roots Foundation, based at Worcester Volunteer Centre, The Tything, has received £47,460 to create the trail at The Fold care farm in Bransford.

Young volunteers will be heading the project with help from the care farm to help provide natural and historical conservation for future generations.

During its construction, the volunteers will learn about local railways and wildlife as well as gain skills to help them in employment.

Ecology students will be able to take part in biodiversity surveys once it is created and there are also plans for guided walks on sustainability and conservation.

The group will be working with members of the Heritage Lottery Fund and environmentalists to help restore the heritage area of natural and cultural significance to become a focal point for recreation and learning of about Worcester's wildlife and railway history.

Tash Giaquinto, Worcester Roots Foundation’s charity director, said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident the project will support young people and the local community in learning about and maintaining more of Worcester’s heritage.”

Worcester Roots Foundation is a youth environmental charity for 16 to 25 year olds to develop social, communicative and occupational skills through campaigning and promoting sustainable causes.
