A WORCESTER woman is going bald to raise money for a cancer charity in support of a friend currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Claire White is having her head shaved at Avant Garde salon in St Martin's Quarter next month in an effort to raise cash for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in a show of support for her friend Jan Agar, who was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year.
Later the same the 34-year-old will have a tattoo of the chairty's logo inked at Gods of Ink II in Broad Street in the hope she will raise even more money for her friend.
Claire said she had met 51-year-old Jan - mother to two and grandmother to one - while working as a chef in Caersws, Wales, in 2009.
"I think one of the hardest thing Jan has had to deal with was the loss of her hair," she said.
"I'm sure during times of illness losing your hair can be extremely traumatic and I want Jan to know she is not alone."
Claire, who suffers from fibromyalgia, meaning she experiences pain throughout her body, and chronic back pain, said she was keen to raise awareness of the disease.
"I am hoping from this I can spread the word that breast cancer is not just about looking for lumps," she said.
"Sometimes it is in the smallest changes and having the confidence to talk to your doctor about it."
Following the head shave on Monday, April 28 Claire's hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, a charity making wigs for children who have lost thier hair through cancer treatment.
