STUDENTS from Wolverley CE Secondary School at Kidderminster have been raising money to help pay for their Ace of Spades themed Year 11 leavers prom in July. The event will take place at the Tree Tops Pavilion at West Midlands Safari Park and,in order to make sure it's a party to remember, the students want to raise enough money to pay for extra entertainment.
To kickstart the fundraising, they have already held a prom pamper party, which raised £137 and a Valentine’s Day cake sale, which brought in an additional £97.75.
The pamper party was a chance for all Year 11 girls to get ‘pamper wise’ for their prom. The event was sponsored by a number of local companies including Sassy Boutique of Worcester, Essential Beauty, Lush Beauty and Nikki’s Hair and Beauty Boutique, which all also donated prizes to a raffle. Students from the prom committee took to the catwalk modelling dresses supplied by Sassy Boutique, before those attending were able to try them on and get expert beauty tips from the businesses that attended.
Mark Pollard, the school's acting headteacher, said: "The students have made a fantastic start to their fundraising and we are all extremely proud of their efforts, and I know they have a number of other exciting ideas. In an ideal world, the students would love to have Dynamo, or a similar magician, perform at their prom. The leavers prom is an important part of the school calendar, as it’s a time when the Year 11 students can all come together, perhaps for the last time, and celebrate the hard work they have put in over the previous few months leading up to their exams.”
Back in December, staff and students began the fundraising campaign by raising £121 from a fun tie day.
