Waffles and Pancakes is a story about two boys, their pet hamsters and an important message. I would definitely recommend it to 5 to 7 year olds.

This story is about two boys called Danny and Griffin and their pet hamsters: Waffles and Pancakes.

One day they both notice that their hamsters aren’t feeling very well, and they take them to the vets. They try to work out what could possibly be wrong, and so the moral of the story unravels.

The moral tells the reader that you should not take your misery out on someone else, and if you do you should try to repair what you have done.

The two boys and hamsters have to work out a way to make friends with Tom and Oscar; the two other main characters in the book, another boy and his guinea pig. They teach Tom to take more care of his pet, and everything is soon resolved.

Despite the fact that this book is not aimed for my age group, I found it sweet and encouraging and a great story for early readers. It could also be read aloud by somebody a lot older, as I did to my younger siblings.
