BY DAWN WOODS
Sharat has grown up in the circus and has perfected his act with Emira, a beautiful white tiger who trusts Sharat impeccably.
One new stop on their itinerary is the City of Jewels. In spite of a warning from a wise woman that it was dangerous for the tiger in the City and that the circus should leave, Sharat's Father insists on performing.
Before everyone's eyes Emira disappears. Sharat just has to find out how to get her back. With the help of a poor young girl accustomed to living in the sewers, Sharat battles magic and evil forces. Jinnis are conjured up, either to help or to hinder the quest. Spirits rise up from the dead and the two young people have to fight their way out of many dangerous situations.
Sometimes difficult to follow as significant links are revealed, this book is certainly very fast moving and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
Will Sharat reach Emira in time, or will he succumb to the magic which threatens to overcome him?
Although an animal tale, I liked the fact that this is no saccharin coated story. This will appeal to both boys and girls who like adventure with a hint of fantasy.
A new author with a history of world travel to bring to her writing, Michaela Clarke's Tiger Thief has the added benefit of a beautiful exotic cover to attract young readers.
This book was published by Nosy Cow and is available to buy for £6.99. It can also be borrowed from The Hive as well as other Worcestershire libraries. Click here to check availability and check it out.
