BY EMILY CLACHER (aged eight)
Arthur’s Valentine by Marc Brown is about a boy named Arthur, who keeps getting valentines but can’t think who is sending them. He couldn’t understand until he was sent theatre tickets with a smudged name saying F-r-a-n-c-i-n-e. He then went to the theatre with a plan. “Close your eyes and I will give you a kiss,” Arthur said to Francine. Francine kept her eyes closed for the whole show and when she opened her eyes she saw little chocolates and a note saying “kisses for Francine.”
My favorite part of the story was where Arthur tricked Francine. My least favorite part of the story was where Arthur’s friends were teasing him when all the valentines fell out of his coat pocket. It made me feel sorry for Arthur.
Marc Brown is a great author and I would recommend him to most young readers from 5-6. His TV program on cbbc is good and his books are no exception. If I could rate it I would rate it 8/10!
This book was published by Little, Brown Young Readers and is available to buy for £7.99.
